Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua now says the Abagusii community has been given more job opportunities in government than they deserve.

Speaking on Friday during the homecoming ceremony of Education CS Ezekiel Machogu in Kisii, Gachagua said President William Ruto has  given the community more than it deserves considering the region largely voted for the opposition in the August polls.

"What you (Ruto) have given them is five times their rightful share in the government. Nimeelewa rais ni mtoto wenu hapa na ndio labda amependelea nyinyi (I understand the President is your son and maybe that is why he favoured you)," he said.

The DP reiterated that government is like a company where majority shareholders who overwhelmingly voted for Kenya Kwanza deserve to reap big and first.

Gachagua said Ruto has done more in the Kisii region compared to opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Ruto, who is on a three-day development tour in the South Nyanza has commissioned several projects in Kisii and Nyamira Counties which he toured on Thursday and Friday.

On Thursday, the President presided over the launch of a water supply and treatment plant and the opening of a computer laboratory.

He also commissioned the Kisii Town Water Supply Project, the Kegati Water Treatment Plant in Kisii County which will increase the capacity of the plant from 6,500 to 27,000 cubic meters per day.

In Nyamira, Ruto chaired the commissioning of road projects and the launch of an affordable housing programme and commissioned the construction of the Gekano-Rigoma-Amabuko Road and launched the Sironga Housing Project in West Mugirango Constituency.

Despite the favourable treatment, Gachagua, warned that should the Abagusii community fail to vote in favour of Kenya Kwanza in the next elections, they will reap exactly what they sow.

"I agree with you President, let us take care of these people. But next if they do not cast for majority shares, we will roll out State positions according to their votes," the DP said.

Among those appointed in government from the region include Education CS Ezekiel Machogu, Foreign and Diaspora Affairs CAS Joash Maangi, Interior CAS Millicent Omanga, National Assembly Majority Whip Silvanus Osoro among others.
