Eldas MP Adan Keynan has condemned Azimio's call for mass action at a time when Muslims are fasting during the holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement on Friday, Keynan said the demonstrations cast Kenya in negative light to the World.

"These plans are contemptuous to the Muslim Faith and casts Kenya in a negative light to the rest of the world as a country that does not care about the rule of law and religious freedom," he said.

He said that nothing substantial can support the Azimio political strategy of protesting as a solution to problems the nation is experiencing.

Kaynana urged Azimio to call off the demonstrations saying leaders should go back to the drawing board and seek other alternatives.

"The Muslim Community has a right to tranquil environment during the Ramadan, as we pray for peace and the unity of the Nation, against the backdrop of heightened tension and economic unrest," he said.

Azimio leader Raila Odinga has called for demonstrations every Monday and Thursday against President William Ruto’s administration.

The clergy has prevailed on the Opposition chief over these past days and asked him to call off the demos and embrace dialogue but he declined.

Muslim clerics made the call on Wednesday on the same day Catholic priests mounted pressure on Raila to heed to calls and suspend the mass action.

"Tunatoa mwito kwa wale waandalizi wa maandamao waheshimu waislamu na mwezi huu kwani ni mwezi wao wa ibada," they stated.

Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims chairman Coast region Muhdhar Khatarmy Sharif said the planned demos will disrupt the peace that is already in the country and affect the economy further.

However, Raila issued a statement on Thursday and told the clergy that he won't call off the protests until he gets justice.

"Our answer to the clergy is in the gospel, I want to quote John 8:32 - Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free," he said.
