Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo said the government is wrong, adding that the cost of a by-election is more than that of providing a legislator with protection.

He noted that the withdrawal of security can only strengthen their determination to bring about change.

“So the illegitimate regime believes we’ll be cowed by the withdrawal of our security? Dead wrong! Our resolve becomes stronger! A cost of a by-election for a dead MP is Sh1 million times what protection costs,” Amollo said.

The MP's remarks come about a month after former defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa also claimed that all his four security officers were withdrawn after the Kibra rally took place.

Wamalwa said that former CSs are being intimidated because of their political affiliation.

Ahead of the Opposition's first anti-government protests on Monday, a wave of panic rocked the opposition with key politicians planning for the Monday march to State House fearing arbitrary state arrests.

A senior Azimio politician told the Star that it was true that there are concerns that the State could target some of them for house arrests ahead of the protests.

"We are aware that one of the options they are looking at is placing some of us under house arrest but we are well ahead of them in this game," he said on condition of anonymity.

State agents were said to be monitoring every of their move amid fears that the Azimio leaders are planning to storm the State House on Monday.
