The report states that none other than the President himself mentioned that the dumping was the work of the police.

However, Missing Voices was unable to add the River Yala bodies to the 152 killed in 2022 by police because the investigations are ongoing.

"Today we are calling for expedited investigations into these cases to bring relief to the families affected and accountability to the perpetrators of these heinous crimes," reads the report.

The report was launched by Missing Voice, in partnership with Amnesty International, Defenders coalition, and Code of Africa among other institutions.

In January, Amnesty International Kenya called for the urgent identification of 21 bodies recovered from River Yala.

The bodies, Amnesty said, were at the Yala Hospital Morgue.

Amnesty expressed their concern over having the bodies disposed of without fully being identified by their prospective relatives.

It also said in a statement that it had recorded 31 bodies retrieved from the river.

“We can confirm that the bodies were dumped and retrieved from the river between July 2021 and January 2022,” they said.
