President William Ruto has gazetted the appointment of Shadrack Mose as the Solicitor General.

It follows the vetting and approval for appointment by the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs (JLAC) on February 23.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by Section (9) of the Office of the Attorney General Act 2012, I, William Samoei Ruto, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces appoint Shadrack John Mose to be the Solicitor General of the Republic of Kenya," Ruto said.

Ruto nominated the former Kitutu Masaba MP for the post on February 13 to replace Kennedy Ogeto, who was appointed by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta in March 2018.

Mose told the vetting committee that he would push for better working conditions for government officials including remuneration.

“I urge this committee to assist us in securing increased budgetary allocation to be able to equip the State Law Office and retain qualified, competent officers," Mose told JLAC.

Mose held the Kitutu Masaba parliamentary seat between 2017 and 2022.

He lost the bid to defend the seat on a UDA ticket at the August 9 general election.

A total of 18 applications had been submitted to the Public Service Commission by the close of the application deadline on November 14, 2022.

The PSC shortlisted eight candidates and interviews were conducted on December 13 and 14, 2022.

Mose boasts of over 29 years of legal practice ranging from tax, insurance, constitutional, employment and banking law.
