Meru university council has given into Education CS Ezekiel Machogu’s directive to reinstate suspended VC Romanus Odhiambo.
In a statement signed by chair Bosire Mwebi, the council will facilitate Odhiambo’s resumption of official duties.
“The council will work on management to facilitate the reopening of the university by Wednesday and also the immediate resumption of Odhiambo to the office immediately,” the statement read.
This follows an earlier directive by Machogu to rescind the decision to suspend Odhiambo on grounds of poor performance.
Further, the council asked members of the varsity staff to remain calm.
Machogu had already suspended the council after VC Odhiambo's ouster with effect from March,9.
Machogu noted that in two days the council’s term comes to an end.
“The council's term comes to a lapse on March 9. The ministry is taking necessary steps to constitute a successor council,” Machogu said
The council led by Chairman Bosire Mwebi on February 27 suspended VC Odhiambo.
Other council members include Muriira M’Mbwiria, Stephen Kimani, Dick Waswa, Pauline Jeruto, Naomi Kipuri, Paul Mungai (ministry), and Damaris Nyasuguta (treasury).
