Absa Bank Kenya appoints Abdi Mohamed as new CEO

He will replace Jeremy Awori who stepped down on October 2022.

Absa Bank Kenya has appointed Abdi Mohamed as the new CEO and Managing Director. 

A statement released by Absa Bank on Friday said the appointment is subject to regulatory approvals. 

"This decision follows a rigorous recruitment process conducted between October 2022 and February 2023," Absa said.

He will replace Jeremy Awori who stepped down on October 31, 2022, to become CEO of Ecobank Group.

He had served in the CEO position for almost 10 years, since June 2013.

Mohamed is the current Managing Director of Absa Bank Tanzania and acting Managing Executive for Retail and Business Banking, Africa Regional Operations Absa.

He began working with the bank 28 years ago at the Garissa branch and has held various executive positions within the Group.

Mohamed holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Kenyatta University, and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Edith Cowan University. 

He also took an Advanced Management Programme from MD Business School - Switzerland.
