Performance management added to Mudavadi's roles

Cabinet reached the decision after reviewing 2021/22 government performance.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has been granted more powers in overseeing the performance management across the country.

A Cabinet dispatch on Tuesday indicated that Mudavadi would take over the role after reviewing the outcome of Financial Year 2021/22 Performance Contracting Cycle of all Ministries, State Departments, and State Agencies.

"As part of deepening a performance-based culture within government, the performance management function has been elevated and is now vested in the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary," the dispatch said.

This is expected to enhance the accountability of, and establish the productivity as the administration's Mantra.

"To realise this, the Administration's  first contracting cycle will crystalise the Ministerial Priorities approved during the Cabinet Retreat held at the beginning of the year," the Cabinet said. 

Further, the Cabinet also discussed issues to do with health, approving the development of centres of excellence for health education and training seeking to improve cancer care.

This including a nod for collaboration of healthcare workers between Kenya and the United Kingdom under the Kenya UK Health Alliance (KUKHA)framework.

It said the first step towards accomplishing measures which promise to realise high quality tertiary healthcare services covering the Western Lake and South Rift Regions of Kenya, will include treatments and research of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs),Respiratory Diseases, Sickle Cell, Malaria, HIV, Mental Health, and Cancer Care and Treatment.

These will be delivered through the universities including Kisii University, Egerton University, Maseno University, MasindeMuliro University, Kibabii University, and Bomet University College.

The Cabinet also approved the hosting of the East African Community Civil Aviation Safety and Security Oversight Agency’s Regional Centre for Aviation Medicine in Nairobi.

The Centre is set provide Aviation Hub services for Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, South-Sudan, and DRC.
