Man disowns 'wife' charged with assaulting him

Says they were friends but not legally married.

Relatives and friends of a woman charged with beating up a consultant were shocked after his lawyers told the court that he was not married to the woman and her two children are not his.

The complainant told the Court that he only befriended the accused person but they are not married.

The lawyer acting for the complainant urged the court to issue restraining orders against the woman to stop her from disturbing his client any further.

The lawyer was speaking when the matter came up for plea taking in a case in which Bedhine Mercy Misigo Muhindi is charged with assaulting Kennedy Owour Abour Onyango occasioning him bodily harm.

Muhindi denied the charges and told the court that she never assaulted the complainant.

The defence lawyer further told the Court that the matter involving children ought to be handled by Children's Court.

The accused person is said to have assaulted the complainant on January 30, 2023, at Ramco Courts in South C within Lang'ata subounty, Nairobi County.

The magistrate released the accused person on Sh20,000 cash bail with a surety of a similar amount.
