Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has told Azimio leader Raila Odinga to show respect to former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Gachagua said it was wrong and disrespectful for Raila to rope Uhuru into his public rallies.

Speaking on Sunday in Lamu, Gachagua said they had forgiven the ODM leader for all he had done except misleading the fourth retired President.

"I saw him the other day misleading Uhuru. Uhuru has been given an important job of brokering peace in Ethiopia and DRC and he took him away from that to parade him in Kisumu around on a lorry," Gachagua said.

The DP spoke in reference to the anti-government rally held in Nyanza earlier in February shortly after the burial of former Education CS George Magoha, which Uhuru attended.

"You (Raila) need to respect our former President Uhuru Kenyatta," Gachagua said.

"Even if Uhuru was misled by Raila and the economy was destabilised, he is our President. He is a man of honour. We want that respect to be maintained. He should not take him to those rallies. He is ruining the respect of our country."

Gachagua reiterated that it was disrespectful for a former President to attend anti-government rallies.

During the aforementioned rally, Uhuru affirmed his support for Raila and Azimio at large.

Since the rally held on January 23, at Kamukunji, Raila has led more than 100 leaders elected on various political parties affiliated to the Azimio outfit in the protests dubbed 'public consultation meetings'.

The chief opposition leader has been persistent in the anti-government rallies despite criticism from some leaders to stop on grounds that he is dividing the country.

"We must continue to have these barazas to sensitise our people of their democratic right which has been stolen. These people know that they stole elections and they want to rule you as if they won elections," Raila said during an Azimio coalition retreat on February 9.

On Wednesday last week during the Azimio prayer rally at Jevanjee gardens in Nairobi, Raila gave the Kenya Kwanza administration a 14-day ultimatum to lower the cost of living or face mass action.
