Thridway Alliance Party leader Ekuru Aukot has reignited the debate on the IEBC fiasco saying President William Ruto should be taken to task over claims that there was a plot to murder former chair Wafula Chebukati.

"It's something that we have swept under the carpet but it's a very very serious allegation for which Ruto must be taken to task. Who are these because he said he knew there was an elaborate plan to kidnap and murder Chebukati," he said.

On January 17, Ruto said there was a syndicate at play to overturn the will of the people in the August 9 General Election which went as far as eliminating the IEBC boss.

He said the plan included a series of strategies consisting of bribery, blackmail, extortion, threats and intimidation of various members of the electoral body and the abduction, torture and assassination of Chebukati.

"...use of violence to cause the alteration of the vote tallying as well as entice or bribe or force the IEBC chair to announce their favoured candidate of failing this eliminate him and replace him with a willing accomplice from among the sleepers," Ruto said.

He spoke when he met chairpersons and members of independent and Constitutional Commissions.

Aukot said the division of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission at such a critical moment was a recipe for chaos as the plan was to capture one of the sides and have them declare a winner.

"So, it's some sort of a bitter pill that Azimio guys are still hosting because they were not able to get Cherera of Chebukati was not able to be kidnapped and murdered like the President said," he said.

Minutes before Chebukati declared Ruto the President-elect on August 15, four commissioners led by then vice chair Juliana Cherera walked out of the Bomas of Kenya.

Cherera and fellow commissioners Francis Wanderi, Justus Nyang'aya and Irene Masit held a hurriedly assembled press conference at Serena Hotel and denounced the results.

They said the final phase of the verification of the results was opaque and they could not own them.

All but Masit resigned late in early December upon suspension from office by the president seeming to avoid facing a Commission of Inquiry that was formed to investigate their conduct.

The Justice Aggrey Muchelule-led tribunal is yet to give its findings on the conduct of Masit during the polls.
