Jacktone Odhiambo drops bail application in Chiloba murder case

He said he was ready for a pre-trial conference and hearing of the murder case.

Suspect Jacktone Odhiambo has dropped his application to be released on bond pending a hearing of the case in which he is accused of killing LGBTQ activist Edwin Kiprotich Kiptoo alias Chiloba.

He appeared before High Court Judge Richard Nyakundi for mention of the murder case where his lawyer Mathai Maina said they had suspended the application for bond.

"For now, I wish to inform the court that we have decided not to pursue bond for now. We will revisit the application later," said Mathai.

He said they were ready to take dates for a pre-trial conference and hearing of the murder case.

The judge asked Odhiambo if it was true that he was no longer interested in the bond application for the time being to which the suspect nodded in agreement.

Justice Nyakundi set the pre-trial conference for February 23, 2023.

Odhiambo has denied that he murdered Chiloba between December 31 2022 and January 3, 2023.

He is accused of having committed the offense at Noble Breeze apartment in Chebisas area in Moiben sub-county, Uasin Gishu.

State Council Mark Mugun informed the court that the suspect and all parties had been supplied with committal bundles for the offense.

Mugun had told the court that all material confiscated would be used as evidence in court.
