Award-winning rapper Kiernan Forbes, popularly known as AKA will be buried on Saturday, February 18, 2023.
AKA was killed outside a Durban eatery on Florida Road with his long-time friend, Tebello Tibz Motsoane on February 10, Friday night.
On Tuesday, the Forbes family released a press statement of his memorial and funeral details.
To give the rapper a send-off he deserved, a memorial service will be held on Friday, February 17, at the Sandton Convention Centre at 3 pm.
"Limited tickets will be available on web tickets; the memorial will also be live-streamed on the Akaworldwide Youtube page," reads the statement.
On Saturday, his body will be laid to rest in a private provincial funeral.
Explaining why AKA's memorial service will be opened to the public, the family said that they wished to celebrate the life of Kiernan with those he touched and impacted through his gift of music.
The Forbers family further acknowledged the love and unwavering support they have received for the past few days.
"We didn’t just love Kiernan as a family, but by the nation, as we’ve seen from loved ones, friends, industry colleagues, media tributes and the legacy, " reads the statement further.
The family also acknowledged support from its extended family, the Mohosanas for their unwavering support.
However, it was announced that Bongani Mahosana will be in absentia at the memorial and funeral due to observing cultural protocol.
Mahosana, known as Murdah Bongz, is married to Dj Zinhle who is the mother to AKA’s daughter, Kairo. The three of them have been co-parenting their children together.
