No Kenyan has so far been affected as a result of the earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria claiming the lives of more than 5,000 people, Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said.

According to cabinet secretary Alfred Mutua, the government is, however, keeping "tabs" to know if there is any.

The number of Kenyans residing in the two affected countries was yet to be provided.

Addressing the press at his office on Tuesday, Mutua said a hotline number for any Kenyan in those countries has been availed for help in case of any crisis, emergency or support.

He was accompanied by Turkish ambassador Subutay Yuksel.

"So far we do not have Kenyan affected and we are keeping our fingers crossed...anyone facing distress or has been affected can call 905385020960," said the CS.

Mutua at the same time stated that the government was coordinating with other agencies to send search and rescue specialist teams to the two nations to assist in the ongoing operations.

He said, "We share with the people of these two countries. As a country we feel that we cannot just sit and watch the Television, we have a responsibility to lend a hand to our brothers and sisters in these nations."

"Therefore, I am calling upon Kenyans to join hands in extending material support that will alleviate human suffering," he added.

The government, he said, will be dispatching a consignment of tea, coffee, cashew nuts and macadamia as part of support to the two countries.

Mutua at the same time extended his call to Kenyans of goodwill to offer material support such as clothing, foodstuff, and financial and medical supplies to alleviate human suffering.

Collection points, he said, will soon be communicated.
