Six water service board members arrested over graft

EACC says they flouted procurement laws in awarding a Sh600 million tender.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission on Wednesday arrested six members of the Rift Valley Water Service Board over alleged corruption. 

The commission said in a statement accusations against the six related to the irregular award of contract for the construction of the Malaba Water and Sanitation Project, Water Supply Works at a cost of Sh600 million. 

 

"The six include four Rift Valley Water Services Board Officials arrested within Nakuru and Eldoret regions and two officers from Lake Victoria North Water Service Board contemporaneously arrested in Nandi and Kakamega counties," EACC said.

The commission said the suspects are being held at its Bungoma Regional Office pending arraignment at the Bungoma Anti-Corruption Court on Thursday.

They will be charged with various offences including willful failure to comply with the law and regulations relating to procurement, neglecting official duty and fraudulent practice in procurement.

EACC said one more suspect, a director of the company awarded the tender, should present himself to the commission's regional office in Bungoma for processing.
