Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua has said that President William Ruto is not in a position to advise the opposition on how to oversight the government.

In a statement on Friday, Karua said that once someone is your competitor they cannot be able to advise you.

"Your competition can never be your cheer leader or adviser period !"Karua said.

Ruto's administration is proposing to create the office of the leader of official opposition as part of what he has called strengthening institutions of governance.

He said such an office will keep the government in check as required in a democratic set-up that calls for strong oversight institutions as pillars of good governance.

His proposal came under sharp criticism as some Azimio leaders came out strongly to oppose the creation of the office.

On January 6, Siaya Governor James Orengo, MPs Otiende Amolo (Rarieda) and Samuel Atandi (Alego Usonga) cautioned the National Assembly to be careful when handling Ruto's proposal to introduce the office of the opposition leader.

Recently, nominated Senator Hezena Lemaletian said the opposition will not accept a proposal to create the office of the leader of the opposition.

She said that given that the opposition has issues with the outcome of the last presidential election, they are not ready to take up the position.
