Dadaab MP Farah Maalim has weighed in on President William Ruto's claims that there was a scheme to murder immediate former IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati.

Speaking in an interview on Thursday, Farah said the claims need action and there is no going back.

"I want to believe President Ruto’s claims about Chebukati's murder plot are well-founded information from systems like intelligence that can eavesdrop on conversations," he said.

"President Ruto’s claim demands action and there is no going back now."

The MP said action has to be taken, an investigation carried out and witnesses to come out and know the truth of the claims.

"Authenticity of that statement needs to be verified in an open court. Justice has got to prevail in this case regardless of who was involved," he said.

On January 16, President Ruto claimed that there was an elaborate scheme to abduct, torture and kill Chebukati.

Ruto said the plot was hatched by a political syndicate that was managing the presidential succession as the ultimate move to force their preferred candidate on Kenyans.

Speaking when he met chairpersons and members of independent and Constitutional Commissions, Ruto revealed that Chebukati's assassination would then pave the way to overturn the will of the people.

“We all know there was a direct attempt to abduct Wafula Chebukati and murder him so that the commission would be paralysed or a compliant commission takes over and subvert the people's sovereignty,” Ruto said.
