Madaraka Express to make intermediate stops at Voi from next month

Passengers have been advised to arrive at the station one hour before their departure time.

Relief for passengers as the Madaraka Express Passenger Service train will start to make intermediate stops in Voi beginning February 1, 2023.

In a public notice on Sunday, Kenya Railways announced that passengers aboard the 3.00 pm Madaraka Express train from Mombasa and Nairobi termini can board and alight the train at Voi station. 

At the same time, the Mombasa to Nairobi afternoon train will now arrive at Voi station at 4:38 pm and depart at 4:43 pm; while the Nairobi to Mombasa afternoon express train will arrive at Voi station at 6:48 pm and depart at 6:53 pm.

The Mombasa to Nairobi train will complete the journey at 8:18 pm, with the Nairobi to Mombasa train completing its journey at 8:30 pm.

However,  passengers have been advised to arrive at the station one hour before their departure.

“We also take this opportunity to remind customers that one must arrive at least one hour before departure time in order to have a smooth check-in and boarding experience,” reads the notice further.

The passenger train services between Nairobi and Mombasa cost Sh1,000 for economy class and Sh3,000 for first class, according to fares released by the railways' management.

It took the Government two and half years to accomplish the task of constructing 472 kilometers of the SGR from the port city of Mombasa to the capital city of Nairobi.
