Former Kandara MP Alice Wahome has cast her vote even as low voter turnout mars the exercise.

Wahome’s seat fell vacant after she was appointed as Water, Sanitation and Irrigation CS by President William Ruto.

She voted some minutes past 10am at Muruka Primary School polling centre where she is a registered voter.

Wahome said the flow of voters is very slow.

“I have voted. I took less than two minutes to complete the exercise and therefore I want to call upon voters to come out early, when there is no queue,” she said.

The CS said voters should not wait to dash to the polling centre later in the day.

“I want to appeal to voters in Kandara constituency to come out and vote for their preferred candidates. This is a by-election and we know by-election normally have challenges," she said.

"But, considering that we need to replace the MP who is now speaking here having left the seat, and returned the seat, I would want a good turnout."

She further urged residents to take their civic duty seriously.

Wahome said there has been a lot of mobilisation and she expected to find huge queues.

“Please come out and vote. It is your duty to vote and put in the right leader that you are looking for. This is an opportunity for you to decide who will be the next MP for Kandara constituency,” she said.
