A night guard was hacked to death during a robbery at a church in Tala, Machakos county.

A gang raided Redeemed Gospel Church in Nguluni and stole electronic goods valued at Sh500,000.

Police said the gang gained entry into the compound on Saturday at about 2am and first tied one of the guards who were on duty.

They then proceeded to the main office where they planned to rob property.

Therein they met resistance from Feminus Makau, 58 who was guarding the place, prompting them to hack him in the head.

They then dragged his body outside and abandoned it there.

The gang had all along left one of their accomplices to guard the night guard who was tied in a room.

After the mission, the attackers escaped through a perimeter wall abandoning some of the property they had removed from the church office.

Police visited the scene and took the body to the mortuary.

They said they are interrogating a suspect over the attack and the hunt for more is ongoing.

Elsewhere in Ruaraka, a woman was fatally stabbed during a robbery.

The deceased identified as Doreen Ekesa was stabbed in the neck by a gang that wanted to grab her mobile phone and cash on Sunday night.

She was in the company of her cousin who managed to escape the attack, police and witnesses said.

Police said a gang had been attacking and robbing pedestrians in Kariadudu when they confronted Ekesa.

She allegedly resisted orders by the gang to surrender her valuables and cash prompting the stabbing.

Ekesa was escorted by members of the public to Hope Clinic in the area where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

A mob rioted in the area on learning about the incident, lighting tyres on the road and refused to have the body collected.

After talks with the police, the mob agreed to have it removed to the mortuary.

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said they are looking for the gang behind the incident.

He said they have enhanced patrols in the city to address such incidents even as he advised those attacked not to resist.
