Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has urged universities to find a way of diversifying revenue.

Gachagua said the move will play a big role in generating funds for sustainability of higher learning institutions.

"I encourage you to take advantage of government agencies like National Research Fund and development partners to sustain your research activities," he said.

The DP spoke on Friday when he attended the 52nd Kenyatta University graduation ceremony.

He however, commended Kenyatta University and other universities that have gone out of their way to finding other ways of generating revenue.

"I'm aware of the good work going on in most institutions. Allow me to single out the brain child idea of Kenyatta Teaching Referral and Research Hospital," Gachagua said.

The DP said the hospital came in handy at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

"This facility must live to serve not only the university community but the nation of Kenya," he said.

Gachagua urged the university management and management of referral hospital to strike a healthy balance to make a proper use of the facility.

"Use the facility especially in training your students in the field of medicine, this facility should be used for the benefit of all," he said.

The ceremony was held at the Kenyatta University Main Campus Graduation Square at Thika Super Highway.

About 5,500 graduands were conferred and awarded with various degrees, diplomas and certificates.

This marks the second physical graduation ceremony since the Covid-19 pandemic.
