Siaya Governor James Orengo has waded into the ongoing four IEBC commissioners ouster petition.

Speaking on Monday, Orengo said the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commissioner has become transactional & seasonal.

“Politics aside the stability and independence of an electoral body is an important indicator of the state of democracy in any country,” he said.

The first-term governor further said that there will be other seasons with different crops of leaders, noting that tragic fate awaits future commissioners.

His remarks comes barely three hours after Juliana Cherera resigned as IEBC vice chairperson and commissioner.

She wrote to President William Ruto on Monday, notifying him of her resignation from the electoral agency.

"It is with immense woe that today, I tender my resignation as commissioner and vice chairperson of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission," the letter reads.

Her resignation comes two days after IEBC commissioner Justice Nyang'aya resigned on Friday.

“It is with a heavy heart that I tender my resignation as a commissioner of the IEBC effective today (Friday),” Nyang'aya said in a letter to President Ruto.

Nyanga'aya and three other commissioners are accused of attempting to subvert the will of the people with regard to the August 9 presidential elections.

The two others are commissioners Irene Masit and Francis Wanderi

The four disowned the results that were announced by IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati.

Ruto had appointed a nine-member tribunal to probe the suspended commissioners, chaired by Court of Appeal Judge Aggrey Muchelule.

Other members of the team include Carolyne Kamende Daudi, Mathew Njaramba Nyabena and Col (RTD) Saeed Khamis, Kibet Kirui Emmanuel, and Irene Tunta Nchoe as joint secretaries.
