ODM leader Raila Odinga now claims that President William Ruto is planning an early rigging plot of 2027 elections.

According to Raila, the new formula for appointing the electoral body's commissioner by parliament on Thursday is not about integrity.

He said this and the persecution of the embattled IEBC Commissioners should not be allowed.

"“The events in parliament yesterday on the formula of appointing IEBC Commissioners and the hounding of the 4 Commissioners has got nothing to do with integrity, but about 2027. Ruto wants to rig 2027 election in 2022. We should not allow this to happen,” the former Prime minister said on Friday.

The National Assembly on Thursday approved radical amendments to the law on the panel that will select, interview and pick the next IEBC commissioners.

MPs who burned the midnight oil to pass the amendments before they broke for the Christmas recess, technically handed fringe parties a say in the selection process.

Following the approval, the Political Parties Liaison Committee-the umbrella body of all political parties-will now have one slot in the selection panel.

The IEBC (Amendment) Bill, 2022 was moved by Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wa.

The National Assembly voted to adopt a committee report that recommended for their ejection.

The four are Vice Chairperson Juliana Cherera, Justus Nyang’aya, Francis Wanderi and Irine Masit.

The Justice and Legal Affairs Committee confirmed that the four petitions that were seeking for the removal of the four met the threshold for them to be kicked out of office.

On Friday, President William Ruto suspended the four Commissioners and formed a tribunal to probe them.

The tribunal will be led by High Court Judge Aggrey Muchelule as the chair.

Ruto also appointed Carolyne Kamende Daudi, Linda Gakii Kiome, Mathew Njaramba Nyabena, Col. (Rtd.) Saeed Khamis Saeed as members of the tribunal.

Kibet Kirui Emmanuel, Irene Tunta Nchoe have been appointed joint secretaries.

The tribunal's lead counsel will be Peter Munge Murage who will be assisted by Zamzam Abdi Abib.
