Kisumu Trade executive Faridah Salim has said investors should take advantage of the opportunities available and invest in the county.

Salim said the demand for goods and services is high in the region.

She also said as a county government, they will continue to provide an enabling environment to do business in the region.

The official spoke during the launch of the Kenya Association of Manufactures first edition of the Kisumu Changamka Kenya Shopping Festival on Thursday.

The four-day shopping festival seeks to celebrate and create awareness on the diverse, high-quality and unique products that local industries produce.

Salim said one of their goals is to promote Kisumu county as an investment hub and tourist destination. "We welcome manufacturers to continue investing in the county.”

"We welcome this kind of venture because we know our governor's vision for the county. We are proud and happy to hold this shopping festival in Kisumu, that seeks to showcase the ingenuity of Kenyan products," she said.

KAM Nyanza/Western region vice chairman Patrick Jackino appreciated the opportunities for manufacturers across the country and urged both the national and county governments to drive the sector’s growth.

“Kenya is endowed with diverse resources including human capital, raw materials and renewable energy sources that have the potential to transform the country towards shared prosperity,” he said.

Speaking during the event at Agah Khan hall, Jackino said the local industry has continued to innovate every day, to provide Kenyans and the global market with high quality products.

It has achieved this by integrating these resources in their day-to-day operations.

"To achieve holistic socio-economic transformation, Kenya must commit to building, creating, adding value and taking pride in the local industries," Jackino said.

This, he said means that the government both national and county levels and all Kenyans should consume and promote the high-quality, locally made products.

Jackino also said that it means that they need to create a brand that ensures that all persons visiting Kenya want to buy what is made in the country.

"The festival provides our members, the Public, partners and stakeholders with an opportunity to celebrate the local manufacturing sector," he said.

The official said they are grateful for the support from the government and other stakeholders in their quest to push the Buy Kenya Build Kenya agenda, to promote competitiveness and productivity.

"Consuming our local products, as nation, instils in all of us a sense of ownership and pride in the making our economy," he said.

He called upon all to be part of the festival by visiting the exhibitions at Aga Khan Hall from today utill December 4. There is a lot in store for everyone in the country.

KAM has hosted the festival in Nairobi and Mombasa, which brought together more than 150 exhibitors.

The Nairobi and Kisumu editions have been sponsored by NCBA Bank.
