A third body was recovered from Ngong river in Mukuru slums, Nairobi on Monday.

Residents informed police of the body spotted floating in the river at Gatoto bridge.

The body had been stopped from flowing downstream by debris at the bridge.

The body of the male adult was later retrieved by officials from the Nairobi county fire brigade.

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said the body did not have identification documents at the time it was retrieved.

“We do not know if it is a case of murder or drowning. The body did not have any document to identify the man,” he said.

Bungei however appealed to those whose relatives and friends are missing to visit the City Mortuary to help in identification and investigation.

“We will conduct an autopsy if and when it is identified. Those who have missing relatives should visit the mortuary to help in the probe,” he said.

Last week, two decomposing bodies of unknown male persons were found in the same river.

Residents told police they had spotted the bodies at Gatope area in the slum.

Police suspect the bodies were thrown at an unknown place and were swept downstream.

The bodies seemed to have been in the water for more than two days.

Cases of discovery of bodies are common in the rivers, roads and forests.

Some drown, others are victims of hit and run while others are killed after being targeted.

Some of the incidents remain unsolved amid efforts to address them.

Police argue it becomes hard for them to solve some of the cases of unidentified bodies.
