Kenya will receive several tonnes of maize, just days after the government said it will open a window for the duty-free GMO maize to enter the country.

The move is aimed at addressing the biting food crisis as millions of citizens face starvation. 

According to a statement from the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) released on Monday, a total of 37 vessels are expected to call at the port of Mombasa .

Number four on the list with the Africa Merlin Ship carrying bulk maize and empty bags is said to have arrived on Monday, November 21, 2022.

A case in which Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi is being tried for forging his academic certificates is set to proceed today.

Two witnesses are remaining before the prosecution closes its case.

The two witnesses are a document examiner and the investigating officer.

Plan to remove Governor Mwangaza kicks off

Meru MCAs have started a plan to remove Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza from office.

The county assembly has invited views from the public.

In an advert, the county assembly is calling for submissions from the residents on an impeachment motion which has already been tabled and approved by the assembly.

The public participation is as a result of a motion filed a Meru resident-Salesio Thuranira- seeking to have her ousted over alleged over abuse of office and gross misconduct.

Hearing of Governor Waiguru's case

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru will on Tuesday  be defending her Sh200 million house in Nairobi's upmarket Kitusuru estate.

This is after an advocate moved to court seeking her eviction.

The lawyer says the house was irregularly sold to Waiguru in 2015. 

Suspect arrested in possession of over 275 phones to be arraigned

Police arrest a 29-year-old man in Kasarani, Nairobi who was in possession of 265 iPhones and 10 android devices.

Anthony Olando alias Engineer Bobi, was arrested on Sunday evening by DCI detectives, before taking them to his house, where he had stored the stolen phones.

The phones are believed to be worth over Sh10 million.

Nairobi leads in top 10 with high premature babies 

Nairobi county is leading in the number top 10 counties with high premature babies.

Data from the ministry of health shows that these 10 counties account for 52 per cent of the total premature babies born in the country with Nairobi alone having 5,338 babies born too soon.

Java quake kills scores and injures hundreds

An earthquake on the main Indonesian island of Java has killed scores of people and injured hundreds, say officials.

The 5.6 magnitude quake struck Cianjur town in West Java, at a shallow depth of 10km (6 miles), according to US Geological Survey data.

Scores of people were taken to hospital, with many treated outside.

Rescuers have worked through the night to try to save others thought to still be trapped under collapsed buildings.

Covid rising across China

New Covid cases have been reported throughout China.

Guangdong, in the south, is the worst affected region.

On Sunday November 20 alone, there were 26,824 new cases recorded in China. That is close to the peak back in April 2022.

Three people in Beijing are reported to have died from Covid-19 over the past few days.
