Diplomats and experts in diplomacy are pressing for Africa to trade more among themselves and work toward peace stability.

This is meant to unleash the great economic potential for the prosperity of her people.

Speaking during a high level Seminar on Separatism and Terrorism, the Moroccan Ambassador to Kenya H.E Abderrazzak Laassel praised Kenyan role in the stability of the region and the rest of the continent.

He said that a recent statement by President William Ruto to support a United Morroco was welcome.

He termed the Polesario as a terrorist group domiciled outside the country to destabilise Morocco.

He pushed for a unitary Morocco that respects the freedom and economic development of all.

"This is an important seminar on the nexus between terrorism and Separatism and that the continent must face this for prosperity for all, " Laassel said.

At the same time, Prof Maria Nzomo of the Centre for International and Diplomatic Studies at UoN said matters to do with liberation are sensitive and must seek diplomatic approaches to sustainable peace.

Nzomo pressed the need to address underlying issues that bring about such conflicts.

"Terrorism must never hide under the guise of political emancipation and self-determination," Nzomo said.

Speaking at the event Serbian Ambassador to Kenya said Africa can draw a lot of lessons from their struggles since Yugoslavia days.

He said his country separated from Yugoslavia at a time he was Yugoslavia's ambassador to the United Nations in New York.

The host of the Seminar Patrick Maluki said the future of Africa lies in peaceful co-existence and every effort must be made to maintain sustainable peace across the continent.

He called on all warring groups in the Sahel to continue with diplomatic solutions even as they find lasting peace in their midst.

"We hosted this seminar to see from an academic angle, the nexus between terror and separatism. We hosted a similar seminar in 2016 and it is our hope proceedings from here will inform future decision-making in conflict resolution," Maluki said.

Outgoing Trade CAS David Osiany stressed the need for Africa to unite now.

He said the Africa Free Trade Area is a great opportunity for Africa to gain economic independence adding it is only possible when Africa United.

"The time to unite is now. The time to focus of shared prosperity for our people is here," he said.

Osiany reminded students in attendance that he was once the Chairman of the Student Organisation of Nairobi University (SONU)
