Former Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi has said he will offer strong oversight to the Bungoma county government and Kenya Kwanza administration if elected senator in the December 8 by-election.

Wamunyinyi said he was not a coward and was fit to replace National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula because he is a seasoned and experienced leader.

“I am the best option because my work can be seen and felt,” he said.

The DAP-K leader said he was endorsed and blessed by Azimio leader Raila Odinga to be the coalition’s flag bearer.

“I had wide consultations in the coalition and they promised to back my bid,” he said.

Wanyunyi said he is scheduled to present his papers to the IEBC on Friday.

“We agreed with my supporters that immediately after I am cleared, we will start our campaigns,” he said

Wamunyinyi said if elected he will follow up on the Sugar Bill saying if passed, it will be a great reprieve to sugarcane farmers in Bungoma.

The Sugar Bill was presented on the floor of the National Assembly by Wamunyinyi.

He said if the Bill is passed and signed by the President, it commands the sugar mills to pay farmers their dues seven days after they have presented their sugarcane in the sugar mills.

Wamunyinyi said the county needs strong oversight to avoid lagging in development.

He called on the IEBC to ensure a democratic and clean by-election to ensure that nobody compromises the exercise.

The aspirant also warned of interference with the presidential term limit saying one-party state ended.

The DAP-K party leader said that he will represent Azimio la Umoja senators in the House.
