President says this may be realised in 6-12 months

The government plans to migrate all its services to the digital platform in the next 6-12 months, President William Ruto has announced.

Ruto said only 15 per cent of the services were currently being offered digitally with efforts to achieve 90 per cent on course.

“If you look at our manifesto we said we are going move 80 per cent of all services to digital platform and we are working on it,” he said.

The concept of the digital superhighway, he said, is to make work cost effective such that Kenyans can work with the government from the comfort of their homes.

“We want to ensure that you can get every service online without having to travel to any office,” he said.

President was speaking on Thursday during a micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) roundtable organised by the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Ruto further stated this will extend to collection of taxes.

His Deputy Rigathi Gachagua, Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, KNCCI president Richard Ngatia and chairman Kiprono Kittony were among those present during the event.

Kittony said they are committed to supporting the Kenya Kwanza administration deliver on its agenda.

The chamber and other bodies, he said, needed to ensure the tax bases are expanded to allow the government fulfill on its agenda.

“Mr President, KRA has been trying to dig too deep into our pockets but I want to tell you that what these people need is a just an environment that is predictable,” he said.
