Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua applauded the Judiciary on their ruling of scraping the Building Bridges Initiative.

Gachagua said the initiative was not genuine and people were forced to accept it.

The DP spoke at the Supreme Court on Friday during the official launch of the State of the Judiciary and Administration of Justice Annual Report.

“I want to salute the judiciary for having stopped the BBI on its track. It was a terrible scheme against the people of Kenya and all of us had given up,” he said.

“It was being taken down our throats, everybody was being coerced, everybody was being persecuted and everybody was being bribed but.”

Gachagua said Kenya's state was preserved through prudent Judicial discretion because the country had an independent judiciary from the high court to the court of appeal and the Supreme court.

He said the administration will continue to support independent institutions to make sure they deliver their mandate effectively.

“We want to assure you of our continued support and I want to confirm that the President has placed the function of coordinating independent offices and constitutional commissions in my office,” Gachagua said.

“It is not to interfere with whatever you do, but for the purpose of providing a facilitative supportive role to your work by intervening where you need intervention in the treasury.”

Gachagua said the President has directed that the country will be governed through the rule of law and strict adherence to the rule of law.
