Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua now claims former President Uhuru Kenyatta's government diverted police funds to the failed constitutional review process and to fund Raila Odinga's presidential bid.

Speaking Sunday on a local Tv station, the DP claimed Uhuru's regime diverted Sh200 billion at the Interior Ministry to 'project Azimio' and Sh50 billion on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

"Billions of shillings meant for the police were diverted at Interior for project Azimio. Billions of shillings meant for police operations and security intelligence was diverted for BBI. That is the kind of thing we do not want again,” Gachagua said.

The Kenya Kwanza camp campaigned against Raila by mounting a sustained onslaught against the ODM party leader by describing him as a "state project".

The Supreme Court in March declared the BBI unconstitutional, halting Uhuru's bid to make changes to the Constitution which his critics said was an attempt to maintain stranglehold on power.

"That Sh250 billion which is enough money for the Hustler Fund for five years. We want to use money on production. Give the hustlers 50 billion for them to trade,” Gachagua said.

Gachagua said under President William Ruto's reign, money will not be spent on politics and unnecessary projects.

The DP highlighted that the Kenya Kwanza government will use money on production and things which are beneficial to citizens.

He tore into Uhuru’s project of renovating Uhuru Gardens and establishing the Uhuru Gardens Museum.

"You saw them putting up museums, there is already a national museum why do you want to spend Sh25 billion putting up a museum when a country is struggling,”Gachagua asked.

Speaking during the presidential debate in July, President William Ruto blasted his boss for spending billions of shillings to renovate Uhuru Gardens.

He said that projects which were not budgeted for had gobbled up Sh100 billion and spiraled the country's borrowing.

"There are too many projects that are not budgeted for. For example, Uhuru Gardens Museum, you don't see it anywhere in government budgets but its being built. Uhuru Gardens Museum was not budgeted for. We have spent close to sh15 billion on that project,” Ruto said.
