Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has said his ministry was the captain of state capture.

Speaking on Wednesday, Murkomen said the former government was over-ambitious, committing too many new projects.

“That is very expensive and it’s up to us now to ensure that construction continues in phases. These projects must be completed in 3-4 years,” Murkomen.

The CS said he was shocked by the discoveries just less than a week after he was sworn in.

“I’m shocked because in my ministry is where the state capture was living. Just discovered there was a contract signed at the port of Mombasa,” he said.

However, the CS said that he will correct the mess as expected of him, starting with clearing the pending bills.

“We have established a framework to reorganise the resources for road projects. We want to see how we can raise Sh140 billion for pending bills and if it can rise to Sh300 billion,” Murkomen said.

He said he was very excited about the chance and very optimistic to serve as CS for Transport.

“I am very grateful to the President for trusting and believing in me and  I look forward to a very successful career in the Executive,” Murkomen said.
