Arthritis is the leading chronic condition among women in Kenya according to a report by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics.

Arthritis is leading by 78 per cent in women and 22 per cent in men.

The leading chronic condition in men is Tuberculosis with 58 per cent and 42 per cent in women.

The report indicated hypertension at 69 per cent in women and 31 per cent in men, it is followed by  HIV and AIDS at 62 per cent in women and 38 per cent in men.

“Other chronic conditions occupy the fourth place with 61 per cent in women and 39 per cent in men, the fifth place is other cardiac disorders with 60 per cent in women and 40 per cent in men,” the report said.

“Diabetes and Asthma tied at number seven with 58 per cent in women and 42 per cent in men followed by other medical conditions at 55 per cent in men and 45 per cent in men.”

Cancer is more prevalent in women at 55 per cent and men at 45 per cent.

The report showed that Pneumonia leads in women at 51 per cent and 41 per cent in men.

“Other respiratory disorders stand at 50 per cent in both men and women, followed by Kidney problems and mental disorders which tie at 42 per cent in women and 58 per cent in men,” the report shows.
