Azimio settles on Oburu, Mishi and Makau for PSC jobs

The names were submitted on Wednesday to the Speaker of the National Assembly

Azimio boss Raila Odinga’s elder brother Oburu Odinga is among the big names the opposition outfit has settled on for the powerful Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC).

The outfit has also settled on Mavoko MP Patrick Makau and his Malindi counterpart Mishi Mboko to serve in the powerful Commission.

The Star has reliably established that the names were submitted on Wednesday.

Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party has however insisted on having one slot and has submitted Sirisia MP John Waluke’s name for consideration signalling a crack in Azimio.

On Wednesday, Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni wrote National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula communicating the nomination of Waluke who is being held at Industrial Area Prisons.

“Jubilee Party wishes to submit the name of Hon. John Waluke Koyi, Members of Parliament for Sirisia Constituency to be a Commissioner in the Parliamentary Service Commission,” Kioni said in the letter.

A copy of the letter was also delivered to Waluke at Industrial Area Prisons.

Azimio has three slots at the PSC with President William Ruto producing four members.

Parliament is expected to nominate two more members who are not parliamentarians but experienced in public service to represent the public interest.

From the ruling Kenya Kwanza, Faith Gitau(Nyandarua) and Mohamed Ali(Nyali) have been picked from the National Assembly with Joyce Korir(nominated) and Nyandarua's John Kinyua drawn from the Senate.

The PSC is the statutory body that employs MPs and parliamentary staff with mouthwatering benefits for commissioners including offices and state-chauffeured vehicles.

The 11-members PSC is chaired by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula with Senate clerk Jeremiah Nyegenye as the secretary to the commission.

The names are expected to be tabled in parliament anytime from now for approval.

The constitution provides that seven members shall be appointed by parliament from among its members with four picked by the ruling party.

Two of the nominees must be women.
