Kiambu governor Kimani Wamatangi has vowed to terminate the Red Cross ambulance deal that was signed by his predecessor James Nyoro two years ago.

The governor said that the previous administration had leased six (6) ambulances from the Red Cross at a cost of Sh600, 000 per vehicle.

Wamatangi criticized the deal, saying, it does not give the county value for money.

He said that the procurement procedure was screwed and the County has been losing about sh 43,200,000 annually.

He said that the County could have used the money to purchase its ambulances instead of leasing them.

“I will terminate a Red Cross ambulance deal that was signed by the previous administration as we have been losing money through the scheme. I’m determined to equip all hospitals in Kiambu with better response ambulances and train our health workers,” Wamatangi said.

Other Counties that had signed an agreement deal with Red Cross include Narok, Kakamega, Kisii, and Bomet.

Kiambu senator Karungo Thangw’a has told the Star that the government has absolute rights to audit the projects undertaken by the previous administration.

He said that he will not also relent in doing his oversight role to ensure that the public funds are utilized wisely.

Karungo noted that any project that sounds mysterious and costly should be suspended and Wanjiku being given value for his money.

“I will also play my oversight role to ensure that Wanjiku get a value for their money and I will raise alarm in case the money is being used fraudulently," he said.

Kiamwangi MCA Kung'u Smart has also said that MCAs should work closely with the executive to streamline service delivery.

He said that during the induction forum in Mombasa, they agreed to work as a unit and at the same time help the governor fights corruption and deliver the campaign promises.

He said that the governor should audit all the continuing projects that were signed by his predecessor James Nyoro

Former county speaker aspirant Josphat Kamanya has urged Wamatangi to fight the cartels that have been benefiting at expense of County funds.

Kamanya said that the recent launch of a toll-free mobile line will play a key role in fighting corruption.

“The County government should work closely with investigation agencies to identify those who have been benefiting from public coffers,” he said.
