Police are investigating an incident in which a motorist claims he was blocked and robbed of Sh400,000, three cameras, six laptops and four mobile phones in Nairobi.

The motorist reported to the Karen police station that he had been carjacked at gunpoint, bundled into the boot of his car after having his hands tied and dumped in Karen on Wednesday morning.

According to police, Calvin Kirochi went to the station and claimed he was driving a salon car along Waiyaki Way on Tuesday night and on reaching near Kempisky Hotel, he was blocked by two motorcycles.

One of the pillion passengers on the motorcycles alighted and at gunpoint ordered him to open the passenger door and later commandeered him to drive towards Thika Road and branched into the La Mada Hotel area.

Two more gunmen joined his car and tied his hands before bundling him to the back seat and drove off up to Karen where he was abandoned on Wednesday morning.

The victim later walked to Karen police station where he narrated his ordeal.

Police say the gang seems to have had prior information about the victim and efforts to get them are ongoing.

Such incidents have been on the rise and police advise the victims to always cooperate for their safety.

No arrest or recovery has been made so far.

This is the latest such incident to happen in the past month alone.

The victims are trailed to places of work where they can be easily robbed. The attack comes in the wake of increased deployment of undercover detectives in the city, as police take steps to destabilise criminal gangs that regroup after the general election.

There has been an increase in violent crimes in parts of the city as gangs attack for valuables and cash.
