The National Assembly Committee on Appointments is set to give a report on the just concluded vetting of Cabinet nominees.

However, the Star has been reliably informed that the committee unanimously approved 21 nominees but was sharply divided on the fate of the remaining three.

 

According to our sources, members of the committee were yet to agree on the nomination of former Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa, former Meru Senator Mithika Linturi and former Gatundu South lawmaker Moses Kuria.

The panel said they fail the threshold of Chapter Six of the Constitution.

Probe into death of journalist

Police are conducting an investigation into the death of the Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif who was shot dead by a Kenyan police officer.

Postmortem results are expected and the body is set to be airlifted to Pakistan for burial.

Questions abound on what happened as police continue investigating the incident for appropriate action.

Ruto to break ground on a social housing project

President William Ruto will join the State department of housing and urban development to commission the 4,500 units of social housing in Kibera Soweto B.

Ruto pledged that his administration aims to build 200,000 units every year, up from the current 50,000 to close the housing gap of two million units.

The housing programme will also create millions of jobs for hustlers and provide a market for jua kali products to boost the economy.

WHO Road safety workshop

World Health Organization -Kenya Road has an ongoing safety workshop on Ngong Road.

Part of the resolution reached is that NTSA introduces a new system to centralise the collection of figures for accident deaths.

All hospitals will be linked to the portal to be able to report accident deaths that happen within one year.

This is after the WHO said Kenya is grossly underreporting accident deaths. WHO estimates Kenya's deaths are 13,000 annually.

LIT goes digital

Liquid Intelligent Technologies to announce its entry into the digital device segment by announcing its partnership with single-board computer developer Raspberry Pi.

This partnership seeks to address the device and infrastructure gap for STEM and ICT and project the need for affordable and suitable devices, connectivity and educational content.

Raila men face-off over senate position

ODM leader Raila Odinga’s allies will on Tuesday face off in the election of the chairperson of key Senate oversight committees after the approval of the House.

The elections will involve the County Public Accounts Committee and the County Public Investment and Special Funds Committee.

The elections will pave the for the members to start inviting governors to answer audit queries.

Sunak declared UK PM

Rishi Sunak, a man with Kenyan roots, is the first Hindu to become Britain’s Prime Minister. Congratulating messages have continued to stream in.

He is expected to take office on Tuesday after being formally appointed by the King.

His father was born in Kenya while his mother was born in Tanzania. Both are Hindu Punjabis and their parents.

He replaces Liz Truss after she resigned.
