Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said sometimes he finds it hard to believe that they won the August 9, general elections, and hence became the country's second in command.

Gachagua spoke on Sunday during a thanksgiving service in Eldoret.

He said there are times that he and President William Ruto think they are starring in a good dream, only for reality to dawn that they really are the head of the Executive arm of the government of Kenya.

"With what had been planned, sometimes we still don't believe that Ruto is President, and I am the Deputy President," he said.

A grateful Gachagua could not hide his joy as he thanked the Rift Valley residents for entrusting the Kenya Kwanza Alliance with the mandate to lead the country.

"Tunasema asante, mlitutendea wema. Mimi sina maneno ya kusema. Sijui nitasema nini. Hata Ruto akija hapo atashindwa kuongea," he said.

(We thank you, you did us good. I don't have the words to express this. Even when Ruto comes here he'll be too overwhlemed to speak).

He acknowledged that there was a stiff competition during campaigns between the Kenya Kwanza Alliance and Azimio Coalition.

The former Mathira MP also said it is unbelievable that the very officers who were sent to arrest him for graft allegations, are the same officers serving him as the DP.

He further said as Christians, they were obliged to forgive those that had wronged them.

"Tusameheane. Sisi ni Wakiristo. Wale walitutesa, wakatudhulumu, William Ruto na mimi na sisi sote, kwa sababu si tulishinda tusameheane. Lakini siku ingine msifanyie binadamu vile mlitufanyia (Let us forgive. We are Christians. Those who wronged us, Ruto and I and all of us, as we've already won. But next time don't do others what you did to us)," he said.
