A Juja-based company is set to reduce its expenditure on electricity by at least 11 per cent annually.

This is after Star plastics partnered with a start up energy firm to provide 760kWp solar grid tie system.

A grid-tied system uses solar panels to generate electricity from sunlight.

Star plastics and Distributed Power Arica signed the 15-year-long partnership to improve renewable energy at the firm.

While signing the agreement, DPA Kenya CEO Moncef Mettiji said the platform will see Star Africa reduce its power consumption.

“The solution is designed to power the entire Star Plastics warehousing and operations premises,” Moncef said.

For the 15 years, DPA will provide the company with reliable solar power and maintenance of the system.

Star Plastics is committed to sustainable and renewable approaches to energy, recycling and re-usability of plastic waste.

The company also seeks to reduce their carbon footprint on the planet.

Star plastics GM Nirav Nagda underscored the role of solar energy in reducing electricity costs.

Nagda clarified that the project will reduce the company’s operational costs significantly.

“DPA Kenya Limited has helped us move one step closer to consuming electricity generated by renewable energy,” he said.

Star Plastics Limited was established in 2011 in Juja, and initially manufactured water storage drums using recycled plastic materials.

The company then expanded its frontiers into three divisions and now develops more than 350 products.

They range from household items, cleaning solutions, insulated items, storage containers among many others.
