Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa has accused teachers of exploiting parents with the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) curriculum.

Barasa noted that President William Ruto should scrap the CBC curriculum saying it is proving to be a burden to Kenyan parents.

The MP alleged that teachers have been asking students to carry with them chickens to school for practicals only for them to use them as meals at their homes.

"Walimu wamekula kuku mpaka imeisha kwa boma za watu, hio CBC tunataka iondolewe kabisa."

Loosely translates to: "Teachers have eaten parents' chickens to completion. The CBC should be scrapped off for good.''

His sentiments come hot on the heels of debate about whether the curriculum should remain in place or be scrapped.

Ruto pledged to review CBC to give parents the best way forward.

He said he will establish an Education Reform Taskforce, to be launched in the coming weeks, to advise on the way forward.

“It will collect views from all key players in line with the constitutional demand of public participation,” the President said.

“I am aware of the anxieties on the twin transitions of the last 8-4-4 class and the first CBC class in January next year. I assure you there will be a solution to the matter before then.”
