Karua to Nassir: Work with government but don't kneel down

She cautioned Mombasa residents against embracing a 'divide and rule' which she claimed will be brought to them.

Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua has urged Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir to work with the government but not blindly.

Speaking in Mombasa during the swearing-in ceremony, she said  Nassir should work with President William Ruto's government but from a point of strength.

"Collaborate with the govt ambayo imenyakua but collaborate from a position of strength and not kneeling down," Karua stated.

She further said that Nassir should continue with the good work whose foundation had been laid by former Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho.

"Tunamatarajio ya kwamba Governor Nassir ataendelea kupea wakazi wa Mombasa more and better services starting on the foundation laid by Joho," Karua added.

The Nack Kenya leader cautioned Mombasa residents against embracing a 'divide and rule' political strategy which she claimed will be brought to them.

She urged the residents to be united and support the leaders they elected.

"Mtaletewa mambo ya kuwatenganisha ndivyo waweze kunyakuwa Mombasa, ningependa kuwaambia mkae pamoja na mkae nyuma ya wale mliwachagua,' Karua added.

Karua was among top Azimio leaders who on Thursday witnessed the swearing-in of  Nassir as Mombasa governor. 

Other leaders present include Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoke, former Mombasa governor Hassan Joho and his deputy William Kingi, senators Mohammed Faki (Mombasa), Ledama Ole Kina (Narok), Nairobi Women Rep Esther Passaris, Mohammed Zamzam (Mombasa) and ex-MP Fatuma Gedi of Wajir.

Nominated Jubilee MP Sabina Chege, Mishi Mboko (Likoni), Rashid Bedzimba (Kisauni), Mohamed Soud Machele (Mvita), Badi Twalib (Jomvu), Omar Mwinyi (Changamwe) and Mombasa county assembly speaker Harub Khatri were also present. 

The event took place at the Mama Ngina Waterfront Park in Mombasa.

Nassir took the oath of office alongside his deputy Francis Thoya.

Nassir won the seat after garnering 119,083 votes against his closest rival, former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar of UDA who got 98,105 votes after the delayed August 28 polls.
