United Kingdom Minister for Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Vicky Ford has congratulated president-elect William Ruto following the affirmation of his victory by the Supreme Court of Kenya.

Ford took to Twitter on Monday to reiterate UK's commitment to working with Ruto to foster relations between the two countries.

She also recognized Kenyans for holding peaceful elections.

"I congratulate Kenya’s President-elect William Ruto, who I look forward to working with to strengthen our Strategic Partnership," she said.

"Kenya and its leaders can be proud of the example it has set to the world: following a calm, peaceful and transparent democratic process."

Ruto won the presidency after garnering 7.1 million votes against his closest opponent Raila Odinga's 6.9 million votes.

The Azimio leader disputed the results and launched a petition at the Supreme Court, alongside six others.

After a 14-day hearing, on Monday, the apex court upheld the IEBC's declaration.

Ruto will be sworn in as the 5th President of the Republic of Kenya on Tuesday, September 13.
