Nairobi MCAs-elect begin two-day orientation ahead of first sitting

The sessions have been organized to prepare the legislators ahead of the first Sitting of the House.

Nairobi County Assembly will hold a two-day orientation for all the 85 elected MCAs starting on Thursday, September 1, 2022, and Friday, September 2, 2022.

The orientation will be held at the County assembly buildings as announced by its clerk, Edward Gichana.

The sessions have been organized to prepare the legislators ahead of the first sitting of the House.

"In this regard, the Clerk of the National Assembly invites all Members to attend sessions to be held at City Hall building, County Assembly wing," a statement released on Thursday reads.

The orientation will be held in two sessions; 9:00 am to 12:30 pm and 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm.

The sessions will include activities like members registration, collection of bio-data information, medical insurance and briefing on the use of the Chamber voting system.

The incoming MCAs will also be given a tour of the Buildings and briefings by the Office of the Clerk on essential legislative matters.

They will also be briefed on services and facilities available to them and be facilitated to register for them.

The MCAs have been advised to carry their personal documents including; National ID or passports, KRA pin, IEBC certificate, the duly filled and signed bio-data and a copy of their updated CV.

The original IEBC certificate submitted to the Clerk shall be duplicated so the Clerk retains a copy.

"Please note that other additional personal documentation may be required to facilitate application for medical insurance cover," the statement added.

All members, including those who have been re-elected, are required to carry the aforementioned documentation.

“The biodata form shall be availed during the orientation sessions,” reads the notice.

Also, MCAs who belonged to the second assembly have been urged to conclude any pending administrative clearance to facilitate a smooth transition.

In addition, MCAs, including the nominated ones, shall also undergo another induction session organized by the assembly.

The venue, date and programme of the sessions shall be communicated after the swearing-in of the MCAs and election of speakers.
