KDF renovates Mombasa’s Kibarani Kenya Meat Commission

First batch of 62 livestock were slaughtered to mark resumption of operations

The Chief of Defence Forces General Robert Kibochi visited the Kenya Meat Commission factory at Kibarani- Mombasa on Monday.

He was there to inspect ongoing renovations that commenced in September 2021.

Kibochi also witnessed the first batch of 62 livestock slaughtered at the facility to mark resumption of operations, since its revival by the Kenya Defence Forces personnel.

The factory has the capacity to slaughter 250 large stocks and 500 small stocks per day.

Kibochi also toured various sections of the facility including meat deboning, hides and skins semi processing facility and the vast cold storage facilities for both chilling and freezing.

KDF is currently managing KMC and has enabled it to function fully and pay herders in the shortest time possible.

The Kibarani factory plays a significant role in supporting KDF units and security agencies within the Coast region, by supplying fresh and quality meat products to help them expedite their roles.

The face-lift is also geared towards uplifting the livelihood of livestock farmers in the Coast and Northeastern regions, by providing a ready market and buying of livestock at competitive prices.

Kibochi also toured the Makupa Nyama haven, a one stop shop where fresh meat products are sold to members of the public.

He was accompanied by Kenya Navy commander major general Jimson Mutai and KMC director brigadier James Githaiga.

Others were chief of Logictics DHQ brigadier J. Githinji, chief of Finance Ministry of Defence Charles Muhia among other officers and KMC officials.
