Mama Rachel mourns Kenyan top cyclist

Mama Rachel Ruto has mourned Kenyan top cyclist Suleiman Kangangi.

Rachel took to her Twitter page on Sunday describing Kangangi as a mentor and a friend.

"It is with shock that I have received the sad news that @sulekangangi passed away after a tragic crash in the United States. My heartfelt condolences to his family, and the entire cycling community, that has lost a talented cyclist, a mentor and a friend," she said.

The cyclist passed away on Saturday while competing in a gravel race in Vermont, United States.

Gravel race 2022 focused on raising the racers gender ratios encouraging women to come out in a large number to cycle.

Kangangi was part of Team Amani, an East African riders group.

The team had three Kenyans and one Ugandan including John Kariuki, Nancy Akinyi and Jordan Schleck from Uganda.

In 2020, Kangagi and 20 other cyclists, rode from Nairobi to Mombasa in a bid to raise Sh1 million for two charity homes.

The race dubbed 'Sule 1000 charity ride' was helping raise the funds for Hope Children Home in Nairobi and Happy Read Centre in Eldoret.
