IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati has demanded an immediate end to murder incidents facing the electoral agency's staff.

Speaking during the burial ceremony of Embakasi East Returning Officer  Daniel Musyoka, Chebukati expressed concerns about the rising cases of IEBC officers being murdered because of their roles in elections.

“Why must an election officer be murdered after every General election? Whose ghost do we anger by performing our constitutional duties?   Chebukati asked on Friday.

The IEBC boss further said that since former ICT manager Chris Msando was murdered five years ago, no investigation has been concluded or any progress reported.

Relating Musando's death to that of Musyoka, Chebukati said the only mistake they did was to serve the nation diligently and honestly.

“In 2017, we lost Chris Musando and now we have lost Musyoka. We cannot continue making working for IEBC a death sentence,” Chebukati added.

Chebukati was speaking in Machakos where together with a section of commissioners paid their last respect to the late Returning Officer.

The burial took place in  Muuani Village, Muthetheni ward, Mwala sub-county.

Musyoka went missing on August 11 at 9:45 am and his body was found four days later at Mariko in Loitoktok, Kajiado County.

Msando, who was in charge of the ICT at the electoral body, went missing and his body was later found at the City Mortuary.

His body was said to have been checked in on July 29, 2017.

Msando's body was found four days later in a thicket in Kikuyu alongside the remains of a young lady, who was later identified as Carol Ngumbu.

He had only been in the job for two months after his predecessor was suspended for refusing to cooperate with an audit firm tasked with cleaning the voters' register.

Msando's murder came just days before the August 8, 2017, general elections which he had expressed confidence would not be rigged because the electronic voting system he had helped develop could not be hacked.
