A somber mood has engulfed Muaani village in Mwala, Machakos County, as mourners gathered to pay final respects to the Embakasi East returning officer Daniel Musyoka.

The hundreds of mourning who include locals, leaders and the deceased's colleagues thronged the burial venue as early as 9.00 am.

IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati and Machakos County IEBC returning officer Nelly Illongo were in attendance.

Chebukati arrived at the burial venue at around 12.20 pm.

The service is being held by the African Inland Church.

A contingent of police officers drawn from various police units has been deployed at the church.

Musyoka has been eulogised as a strong believer of Christ.

He was born on June 30, 1969, at Muuani vill, Miu location in Mwala, Machakos County.

He was the second-born child of Musyoka Nzuki and Elizabeth Musyoka.

Daniel joined Muuani primary school in 1975 before he proceeded to Utithini primary school in 1978 where he sat for his KCPE in 1985.

He joined Tala High School in Machakos County in 1986 and completed his secondary education in 1989.

He joined Moi University in 1991 and graduated with a Bachelor in Education (Arts). Daniel later joined Egerton University for a Masters Degree in Education (M.E.D) from 2002 to 2004.

In 1999, he worked as a casual labourer at General Printers in Industrial Area, Nairobi.

In 1995, the Teachers Service Commission posted him to Lanet secondary school in Nakuru and was later transferred to Subukia day in Mid 2000.

In 2002, he applied for study leave and was later posted to St. Anthony Secondary school in 2005 where he worked until 2009.

In 2010, Daniel joined Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) until his demise in August 2022.

The deceased was married to Tabitha Mbolu in 1999 and were blessed with two children.

He was baptised in 1984 at AIC Miu and was a staunch believer.

Daniel was found murdered on August 15, 2022, at Oloitoktok in Kajiado County after he disappeared from his place of work at Embakasi East Constituency tallying centre on August 11, 2022.
