President-elect William Ruto will on Sunday attend a thanksgiving service at Gathiru-ini PCEA church, in Githunguri.

He will be joined by other elected leaders from the Mt Kenya region and across the country, led by his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.

This will be the first church service Ruto will attend as President-elect of the Republic of Kenya.

Over the past 10 years, Ruto has branded himself as a God-fearing leader who actively participated in church fundraisers across the country.

During his campaigns, the church was a big part of his weekly tours, with a promise to support the freedom of worship.

Ruto was declared president-elect by the IEBC following a hotly contested election between him and Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

He garnered 7,176,141 votes, against his close rival Raila Odinga who received 6,942,930 votes which is 48.85 per cent of the vote.

Of the 47 counties, Ruto garnered more than 25 per cent of the votes cast in 39, exceeding the minimum 24 counties required by the Constitution. Raila achieved 25 per cent of the votes cast in 34 counties.
