A salon car on Saturday overturned on the recently commissioned Nairobi Expressway.

Embakasi sub-county police commander Masai Makau said the five-seater salon car overturned near the Nairobi Expressway entrance at Mlolongo, Machakos County.

He said there were no casualties in the 12pm accident.

"The car overturned on the Nairobi Expressway along the Mombasa Road at Mlolongo at around 12.00pm. The road was cleared hence no cause for alarm. The Expressway's operations have since resumed," Makau told the Star on the phone on Saturday.

He said the wreckage was towed to Embakasi police station.

A probe into the cause of the accident has since been launched by the officers.

The incident happened barely three weeks after a truck overturned along the highway blocking the Expressway in Machakos County.

Athi River East sub-county police commander Anderson Njagi then said the Nairobi-bound truck was from Mombasa when the incident happened.

Njagi said the vehicle lost control and rolled into the Nairobi Expressway blocking one lane. It happened a few metres from the Gateway Mall on Monday.

President Uhuru Kenyatta officially opened the Expressway recently months after its trial.
