Nairobi's Matopeni MCA Guyo elected Isiolo Governor

Guyo, who is also the Nairobi County Assembly Majority Leader vied under the Jubilee Party ticket.

Nairobi’s Matopeni MCA Abdi Hassan Guyo has won the Isiolo Governor race after garnering 28,946 votes.

He beat his main rival Godana Doyo who got 26,270 votes under an independent ticket.

Guyo, who is also the Nairobi County Assembly Majority Leader, vied under the Jubilee Party ticket.

He thanked  his supporters ,  and pledged to work  withe the people of Isiolo.

" I am honoured and grateful to you, the people of Isiolo for bestowing on me the trust to serve as the third Governor of Isiolo.I thank my family, my Campaign Team and the people who supported me on the tedious journey we made together for the last couple of months," Guyo added.

To his competitors , he  told the to  dust off, heal the custom bruises and join hands in serving the people of Isiolo.

"To my competitors, the Campaigns are behind us. The election period is over and it's time to dust off, heal the custom bruises and join hands in serving the people of Isiolo," Guyo said.

He also congratulated  all the leaders who were elected.

"I will honour this privilege to serve all Isiolo people as Governor. The Governor for those who elected me and those who did not.

"This is "our" County.I undertake to serve all of you devoid of any discrimination. Our diversity shall serve as our strength. We will build on the diverse cultures and socio-economic strengths as the basis for future prosperity," Guyo added.

While choosing running mates, he went after the 11,000 Turkana votes by picking Dr James Lowasa.

In March 2022, Guyo was endorsed by incumbent Governor Mohammed Kuti who announced he would be leaving politics due to health-related issues.

A week towards elections, Guyo had received a major boost, after PNU’s Kenneth Turibu Maore dropped his bid to support him

The decision was arrived at after Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya brokered a deal between the two.

The deal was initiated by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

Before devolution, Guyo served as a councillor and later he was re-elected in the 2013 elections on a TNA ticket. He was then appointed as the Minority leader in the Assembly.

Come 2017, he was re-elected on a Jubilee Party ticket and he was elected unopposed as the majority leader.
